Malicious viruses, worms, and Trojan horses
are small pieces of software that can cause severe damage to
your computer. A particularly severe virus may even erase your
hard drive.
There many types of viruses. For example, certain viruses spread
by sending Email messages to addresses found on your computer,
as well as addresses constructed by the virus. These messages
may spread the virus via bogus Email attachments.
Furthermore, computer spyware can display
unwanted pop-up ads, including pornography. It can also slow
down a computer's performance to a near standstill.
Spyware may rob your identity, snatch
passwords or monitor browsing activity when you surf or shop.
Spyware infects 91% of home PCs, according to National Cyber-Security
Alliance, May 2003.
Both viruses and spyware can infect the
