Time of Jacob's Trouble
Jeremiah 30
[4] And these are the words that the LORD
spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.
[5] For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling,
of fear, and not of peace.
[6] Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child?
wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as
a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
[7] Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it
is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out
of it.

Warning to Those Who Doubt Christ'
Second Coming
Luke 12
[45] But and if that servant say in his
heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the
menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
[46] The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh
not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut
him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
[47] And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared
not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten
with many stripes.
2 Peter 3
[3] Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
[4] And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
The Lord is delaying his Second Coming
so that men may have extra time to repent and to accept Him as
their Savior.

Paul Describes Apostasy in the Last Days
2 Timothy 3
[1] This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall
come.
[2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,
proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
[3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers,
incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
[4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than
lovers of God;
[5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof:
from such turn away.
[7] Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of
the truth.

Isaiah 5

Signs in the Heavens

of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give
its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of
the heavens will be shaken.

Signs in the Earth
Doctrine and Covenants 88
[87] For not many days hence and the earth
shall tremble and reel to and fro as a drunken man; and the sun
shall hide his face, and shall refuse to give light; and the
moon shall be bathed in blood; and the stars shall become exceedingly
angry, and shall cast themselves down as a fig that falleth from
off a fig-tree.
Joel 2
[10] The earth shall quake before them;
the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark,
and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
Matthew 24
[7] For nation shall rise against nation,
and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and
pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Revelations 16
[17] And the seventh angel poured out
his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the
temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
[18] And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and
there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were
upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
[19] And the great city was divided into three parts, and the
cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance
before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness
of his wrath.

Parable of the Fig Tree
Matthew 24
[32] Now learn a parable of the fig tree;
When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know
that summer is nigh:
[33] So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know
that it is near, even at the doors.
[34] Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till
all these things be fulfilled.
[35] Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not
pass away.
[36] But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels
of heaven, but my Father only.
[37] But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of
the Son of man be.
[38] For as in the days that were before the flood they were
eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the
day that Noe entered into the ark,
[39] And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away;
so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
[40] Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken,
and the other left.
[41] Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be
taken, and the other left.
[42] Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth
come.

Luke 21 (continued)
[26] Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking
after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers
of heaven shall be shaken.
[27] And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud
with power and great glory.
[28] And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up,
and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
[29] And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and
all the trees;
[30] When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves
that summer is now nigh at hand.
[31] So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know
ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
[32] Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away,
till all be fulfilled.
The rebirth of the modern state of
Israel in 1948 is considered by some to be the fig tree putting
forth leaves.
At midnight on May 14, 1948, the Provisional
Government of Israel proclaimed a new State of Israel. On that
same date, the United States, in the person of President Truman,
recognized the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority
of the Jewish state.

Two Prophets Raised up to Preach in Jerusalem
Revelations 11
[3] And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
[4] These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
[5] And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
[6] These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
[7] And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
[8] And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
[9] And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
[10] And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
[11] And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
[12] And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

False Peace Treaties
[1] For, behold, in those days, and in
that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and
Jerusalem, [2] I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down
into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my
people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the
nations, and parted my land.
Joel 3
The name Jehoshaphat means "Jehovah has
judged"
The Lord warns that the in the last days there will be false leaders who proclaim, "Peace, peace; when there is no peace."
Jeremiah 6:14
[6] How are the
things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up! [7]
All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the
men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed
against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there
is none understanding in him. [8] Shall I not in that day, saith the
LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the
mount of Esau? [9] And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to
the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by
slaughter. [10] For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall
cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
Obadiah
[1] But of the
times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto
you. [2] For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so
cometh as a thief in the night. [3] For when they shall say,
Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as
travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye,
brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a
thief.

Judah, Gathering of the Lost Tribes
Jeremiah 3
[18] In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
Ezekial 37
[21] And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:
[22] And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:
[23] Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwelling places, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.

Gog Shall Come Against the Land of Israel
Ezekial 38
[1] And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[2] Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog,
the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,
[3] And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold I am against thee,
O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
[4] And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and
I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen,
all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company
with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
[5] Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield
and helmet:
[6] Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north
quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.
[7] Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and al l
thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard
unto them.
[8] After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years
thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword,
and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of
Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth
out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
[9] Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like
a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many
people with thee.
[10] Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that
at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt
think an evil thought:
[11] And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled
villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely,
all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor
gates,
[12] To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand
upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the
people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten
cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.
[13] Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all
the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to
take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey?
to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods,
to take a great spoil?
[14] Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith
the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely,
shalt thou not know it?
[15] And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts,
thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses,
a great company, and a mighty army:
[16] And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a
cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and
I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know
me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.
[17] Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken
in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied
in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?
[18] And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall
come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my
fury shall come up in my face.
[19] For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken,
Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land
of Israel;
[20] So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven,
and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep
upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the
earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be
thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall
shall fall to the ground.
[21] And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my
mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man's sword shall be against
his brother.
[22] And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood;
and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many
people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones,
fire, and brimstone.
[23] Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will
be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that
I am the LORD.
Ezekial 39
[1] Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say,
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the
chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
[2] And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of
thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and
will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
[3] And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause
thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
[4] Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all
thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee
unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the
field to be devoured.
[5] Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it,
saith the Lord GOD.
[6] And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell
carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
[7] So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people
Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more:
and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in
Israel.
[8] Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this
is the day whereof I have spoken.
[9] And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth,
and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields
and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves,
and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:
[10] So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither
cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons
with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and
rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD.
[11] And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give
unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the
passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses
of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his
multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamon-gog.
[12] And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of
them, that they may cleanse the land.
[13] Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it
shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified,
saith the Lord GOD.
[14] And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing
through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain
upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven
months shall they search.
[15] And the passengers that pass through the land, when any
seeth a man's bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the
buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog.
[16] And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall
they cleanse the land.
[17] And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto
every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble
yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice
that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the
mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
[18] Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood
of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats,
of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
[19] And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till
ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
[20] Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots,
with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
[21] And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen
shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that
I have laid upon them.
[22] So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their
God from that day and forward.
[23] And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went
into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against
me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the
hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
[24] According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions
have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.
[25] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again
the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of
Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;
[26] After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses
whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely
in their land, and none made them afraid.
[27] When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered
them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in
the sight of many nations;
[28] Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which
cause them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I
have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of
them any more there.
[29] Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have
poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord
GOD.

Millennium.
An alternate explanation is that Ezekial's
prophecy was fulfilled in the 2nd century B.C. at the defeat

The Apostle Paul's Teachings that the Saints will meet the Lord in the Air
1 Thessalonians 4
[13] But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
[14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
[15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
[16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
[17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The Apostle Paul's Teachings concerning the Antichrist
2 Thessalonians 2
Apostasy, or a falling away, is to precede the Second Coming. The "man of sin" or "son of predition" will sit in the temple of God and claim to be God (verses 2-4).
Some Christians refer to the "man of sin" as the Antichrist. Cross-reference with Matthew 24:5 & 24:24.

and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child
shall lead them.
[7] And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall
lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
[8] And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp,
and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice den.
[9] They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain:
for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as
the waters cover the sea.
Isaiah 65
[17] For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
[18] But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
[19] And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
[20] There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
[21] And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
[22] They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
[23] They shall not
labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the
blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

Lay Up in Store
Bishop Keith B. McMullin
Second Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric
"Prepare ye, prepare ye for that which is to come, for the Lord is nigh." Doctrine & Covenants 1:1,12
The doctrine of the Second Coming of the Messiah provides one of the great incentives to prepare and live right. Heavenly Father knows that promised rewards encourage His children to do works of righteousness and promised penalties create a dread of doing evil. Such are the revelations pertaining to the Second Coming of our Lord.
These revelations speak of signs and wonders on earth and in the heavens. They point to troublesome times and pending events vast in scope and duration. And most important, we receive these supernal promises:
"The Lord shall have power over his saints, and shall reign in their midst." Doctrine & Covenants 1:36
"Through my providence, notwithstanding the tribulation which shall descend upon you, . . . the church may stand independent above all other creatures beneath the celestial world." Doctrine & Covenants 78:14
And "if ye are prepared ye shall not fear." Doctrine & Covenants 38:30
Priesthood bearers are led by these promises to prepare themselves and their families for the Lord's appearing. There is no need to be anxious about events leading up to the Second Coming. Let us instead be filled with gratitude for our understanding of what lies ahead. Let us appreciate that we are in charge of our own world, being the Lord's agents over that which He has entrusted to us. The formula is simple: Be faithful. Unencumber your life. Lay up in store.
